Cat and Mask is a study in contrasts and similarities. This art piece illustrates how the medium of colored pencil can be heavily applied and highly burnished to create the look of a smooth, glassy surface and can be lightly and thinly applied in layers to give the feel of fine, soft textures. Similarity, the characteristics of the mask and cat are intriguing when one recognizes that the pointed ear shapes, elongated noses, and almond-shaped eyes offer a common design pattern. Cat and Mask is one of two of my original colored art pieces that appears in the 2010 book Best of Worldwide Artists Working in Charcoal, Pastel & Pencil, Volume 1. This image is offered in its original size as a gilcee print.
